PLEASE! Do not send us 100% AI generated songs, period! Music supervisors will not take them and they end up wasting our time due to metadata tag entries. They take a lot of time to enter.
Current U.S. copyright guidance distinguishes between AI-assisted works containing sufficient human authorship and material generated entirely by artificial intelligence. The use of AI as a tool does not necessarily prevent copyright protection for a work's human-authored elements. However, purely AI-generated material can present significant questions concerning copyright protection, authorship, ownership, and the rights available for licensing.
For this reason, Songwriters Portal International does not accept songs that are represented as purely AI-generated with no identifiable human authorship.
IF Your song is AI Assisted, that is a different story. You can send AI Assisted songs provided the following:
1. You wrote the lyrics and have them copyrighted.
2. You have invested a portion of time in the AI generated song yourself and have documented this in the registration paperwork.
Example: AI creates a song for you. You break out the stem files from the song and load those into your DAW where you mix and master the song, giving it a better sound. Then register the song and document the human part.
Example: You upload your lyrics to the AI generation platform and use the AI generated music and AI generated vocals. This must be documented when copyrighting and registering the work.
During the song upload process on our website, you must indicate whether you used AI in the creation of the song.

You wrote the lyrics yourself. Those are human-authored. Suno itself says that if you wrote the lyrics, you own those lyrics, and the U.S. Copyright Office says human-authored expressive material can remain copyrightable even when AI is used elsewhere in the work.
Suno generated the vocals and instrumental/music. Those portions raise a different copyright question. The Copyright Office says AI-generated material is protected only to the extent there is sufficient human authorship; merely prompting an AI isn't enough by itself.
There's also a crucial Suno licensing requirement. Under Suno's current terms, a song downloaded while using a paid Pro or Premier plan can be commercially exploited, including distribution and use in film, television, and video games. Songs generated under the free/basic tier generally do not carry commercial-use rights, and upgrading afterward does not automatically give previously generated songs those rights.
Current U.S. Copyright Office guidance distinguishes human-authored material from AI-generated material, and Suno itself distinguishes commercial-use rights from copyrightability. Suno currently grants commercial use for qualifying downloads on paid plans, while warning that this does not guarantee copyright protection.
