Why is there so much Information Required?

I am assuming if you are asking that question, you are new to Sync Licensing. Am I correct?

I will explain why there is so much required information to enter along with your song.

Sync Licensing is totally different from song distribution. With song distribution, anyone can upload a song to a multitude of distributors like Taxi as an example and forget about it.

When submitting a song for Sync Licensing, your song is uploaded into a music supervisors catalog. A music supervisor is a person who is searching for the ideal song to be used as a background track in TV programming, TV advertising, Motion pictures, Commercial gaming, and more. The broadcasting companies will take the music chosen and scrutinize the hell out of it for one thing. This is before they write you a sizable check. They require that all ownership claims, co-writers, publishsers, etc are legitimate or they could possible stand to lose thousands of dollars.

Now, back to the music supervisors. The way they look for the next soundtrack for say a new TV series, is by the use of metadata. On our upload form, you will need to choose several metatags from each category prior to upload. This information gets uploaded with your song to the music supervisor catalogs where they are reentered. The supervisors will seach for what they are looking for by using that metatag information that is associated with your song.

This is if you are on our Free plan. You will enter all of the metadata yourself. If you subscribe to our Pro plan or our Elite plan, we do that for you. If you are going to upload many songs to us, this will save you a lot of time.

Another thing to consider. Most songwriters do not upload instrumental versions of their song. HUGE MISTAKE. Most background tracks used in Sync Licensing contracts are Instrumental. So, always include an instrumental track for a song that has vocals, period!

Now, back to the Pro and Elite plans we offer. Another nice app that is included is the ability to have your instrumental tracks for every song you submit created for you for free. If you many songs to upload, the time savings are large.

I hope this answers your question.
